Project Manager

  • Deliver large-scale, high-impact civil roading projects
  • 12 month contract – build team culture in a progressive alliance model
  • Relocate to Gisborne and enjoy a better lifestyle with this leadership role

About the Opportunity
We’re partnering with a high-performing civil construction alliance delivering a generational rebuild programme in the Tairāwhiti/Gisborne region. This is a unique opportunity for a senior-level Project Manager to lead complex infrastructure projects in a truly meaningful context: rebuilding and future-proofing a vital region devastated by Cyclone Gabrielle.

Based in Gisborne, this role offers a once-in-a-career chance to drive both technical excellence and positive social impact. You’ll be part of a nationally significant, locally led programme of work – with the resources, people and political will to get things done.

About the Role
In this role, you’ll lead end-to-end project delivery of large-scale roading and civil infrastructure rebuilds across the region. You’ll manage multi-disciplinary teams, subcontractors and stakeholders to deliver critical assets efficiently and with enduring value.

Equally, you’ll play a vital leadership role in growing and supporting your teams. You’ll contribute to a collaborative and respectful work culture that reflects the values of the Alliance – delivering quality results while strengthening local capability.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Delivering high-quality roading/civil projects on time and within budget
  • Leading site teams, subcontractors and alliance partners with professionalism
  • Managing performance, timelines, materials and programme delivery
  • Championing safety, culture, and “best for project” decisions

Your Background
To be successful, you’ll bring:

  • 10+ years of experience in large-scale civil or roading projects
  • Strong understanding of NZS3910, contracts and commercial frameworks
  • Proven team leadership and performance management skills
  • Strong planning and delivery skills – from bid to handover
  • A collaborative, culturally respectful approach to working with iwi, council, and local communities
  • Ideally, a BE, NZCE or equivalent industry experience

Why Relocate to Gisborne?
We’re looking for someone who’s ready for a lifestyle shift – without compromising on the scale and impact of their work. In Gisborne, you’ll find:

  • Affordable living and less time in traffic
  • Stunning beaches, surf, and a relaxed pace of life
  • A close-knit community and rich cultural heritage
  • Meaningful work delivering a legacy for future generations
